Good news, everyone!

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

My fears of robot domination over the human race have been assuaged, if only for a few years.  But let us not be lulled into a false sense of safety.  Today it may only be half of a mouse’s brain for a paltry second.  Tomorrow it could be the brain of a gopher, or Japanese Serow.  And then it is just a hop, skip, and a jump to some hyper-intelligent robot, bent on enslaving the human race.  I advise my readers to steel themselves to this inevitable nightmare future, and practice their peek-a-boo techniques, the only known defense mechanism for robot attacks.

And Was Everybody Dancing on the Casket?

I decided which song I want played at my funeral. They Might Be Giant’s Dead. Because it is the greatest song about death I have ever heard. Plus, it would have made a fantastic music video

Biking along the Potomac

Saturday, April 21st, 2007

OK, a few things to remember before the next time I bike along the Potomac:

  1. Sunscreen on face, neck, forearms, and knees.  I can’t stress that last one enough.
  2. Cushion for the seat
  3. Get in shape

I am tired and sunburned, but I had a great time.  The weather was perfect and the flowers going all crazy, along with my allergies.  It was a good workout, too.  My Tamil friend and I biked 10+ miles.  Plus, there were lots of attractive young things exercising along the trail.  Quite pleasing to the eye.  And the scenery was pretty good too…  :D

Also, Grindhouse, really weird, but really good.  If you like Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez see it.

Greyhound across the U.S.A….

Is it wrong that I want to visit this small town in Alabama just because it is named after one of my favorite citrus fruits?  I just think it would be funny to get a picture of myself in front of the town sign…  Anyone up for a road trip to Mobile, AL and environs?

Google homepage themes!

Saturday, April 14th, 2007

I’m sure most of you already know about this, but you can pick a theme for your Google personalized homepage!  They’re pretty neat.  I picked the Teahouse theme.  Hey, what can I say?  I love the Orient.  And who wouldn’t want a picture with a fox rowing a boat across a pond on their homepage?  I suppose the next step will be being able to create your own.  Really, I need to start using the Google homepage service more.  It’s a great way to have all of your RSS feeds in one spot.  Plus, I can access it from any computer (with Internet access, of course :P ).  I also want to check out the My Maps feature, which looks like it can be really useful.  I actually did something similar for a friend who visited last weekend, only I just did a print screen on the satellite image over my apartment and drew in lines using gimp.  Definitely some cool things coming from Google.

Driving really fast down MD-32…

Friday, April 13th, 2007

Today, when I was coming home from work, I decided to pop in one of my favorite mix CDs that I made back during college, また、すごいミックス.  I have fond memories of truckin’ up I-75/85, blasting this strange mix of dork rock and J-Pop, driving like a man possessed (don’t all people in Atlanta?).  As I was merging onto MD-32 I was in the grips of “Peak of Hope (Strawberry Jam).”  And then… I floored it.  The RPMs skyrocketed and my Accord roared forward.  It was about this time that I decided to forgo mumbling the Japanese lyrics and instead shout out, “I miss Georgia so goddamn much!”  I’m pretty sure I meant it.  There are a good number of things I miss from Georgia.  The fact that the left lane is used by speeders, and not some lumbering truck splattered with ladders.  I miss the mild winters and honeysuckle.  And dear YHWH do I miss Waffle House…  I am fully aware that Georgia ain’t the same.  Almost everyone has moved on.  But I suppose you never realize how much you miss something until it is gone…

youTubing Iraq

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

In a far less serious vein than elms-fu’s post, Colbert talks about how the US military is also documenting life in Iraq from the soldier’s perspective. I imagine it paints a far rosier picture…

As an aside, I can’t seem to get the video to embed into my post, which is why the link is there.  Although that doesn’t even lead you to the right video.  So, I will provide a link to the blog post I found it on and you can watch it there.  Any help from those of you who have successfully embedded MotherLoad videos into your blogs (Arjun?) would be much appreciated.

The search is over!

Sunday, April 1st, 2007

Ever since leaving college, I have plumbed the depths of my very soul, looking at what makes me tick, trying desperately to find my purpose in life.  It has been an exhaustive process, dabbling in the latest psychological treatises and Medieval metaphysics.  Oriental or Occidental, it mattered not.  If there was written work expounding someone’s views on life, I read it.  There was even that stint where I plied the down trodden streets of the District, listening attentively to the rants of schizophrenic bums.  Now, the long search is over.  It is amazing; it feels as if some heavy weight has been lifted off of my very being.  So, you might be asking, looking into the abyss, what has this post-modern Atlas found?  Friends, I have decided that my true calling in life is to be turf manager to the East Jackson Golf Club outside of Jackson, Mississippi.  So long to the drab, gray winters of this Nation’s Capital.  Hello to sunny Jackson, where I might bravely live the life I have always imagined.
